Stone sign for Ohio State Highway Patrol

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — A 61-year-old man was killed Wednesday after a two-vehicle crash in Wayne County, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Mervin D. Troyer, of Fredericksburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident took place at 3:15 p.m. when the Patrol received a report of a van that struck an E-Bike on Harrison Road. Responding emergency personnel from Fredericksburg located the crash two miles east of Nonpariel Road.

Initial investigation revealed that a white 2012 Ford van and a gray Magnum Nomad E- bike were both eastbound on Harrison Road. The Ford van struck the E-bike in the rear, causing it to travel off the right side of the road. The driver of the E-bike was ejected and came to rest in the roadway.

According to the Patrol, Troyer was operating the Magnum Nomad E-bike, but was not wearing a helmet.

Luke S. Schonauer, 19, of Millersburg, was operating the 2012 Ford van. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and did not sustain any injuries.

Assisting at the scene were Fredericksburg Fire & EMS, Metro Lifeflight, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and Wayne County Coroner’s Office.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
