ASHLAND — For more than a century, audiences around the world have delighted in the music, movement, and magic of The Nutcracker.

This December, Ashland Regional Ballet (ARB) proudly presents its 34th annual production of the cherished holiday classic, continuing a beloved community tradition that brings the season to life through exceptional local artistry.

Performances will take place at Archer Auditorium on the campus of Ashland High School on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 21st at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at ashlandregionalballet.com/ticket-information.

This year’s production features a full cast of 91 dancers from Ashland and surrounding communities.

Principal roles will be danced by members of Ashland Regional Ballet, with Lyla Metzger of Ashland portraying Clara. Guest artist Larry White appears as the Nutcracker Prince, and Valerie Raubenolt of Loudonville dances the iconic role of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Additional principal roles include Adra Herod as Snow Queen, Asher Robbins as Trepak, Lucy Ronk as Chocolate, Teagan Kime as Tea, and Audrey Smith as the Flower Queen.

Featured performances also include Sami Crist, Mary Hamilton, and Madelyn Shenberger as Arabian Coffee and Rose Jackson, Kinsley Kline, Dylan McQuate, Alysia Szasz-Benedek as the Peppermint Principals.

ARB company members Abbigale Crist, Emersyn Metheney, Jordyn Thomas, Hayden Culler, Lyra Howell, Rose Jackson, Indica McQuate, Adalyn Studer, Olive Knowlton, Audrie Shirley  will also appear throughout the production.

The theatrical cast brings additional depth and charm to the story. Theatre professional Jeff Haffner returns as Herr Drosselmeyer, alongside Bruce Sliney and ARB alumna Jackie Zorich as Dr. and Mrs. Stahlbaum.

Ann Marie Benshoff-Todd, Director of Opus II Dance Studio, portrays Nanny, while ARB Artistic Director Sarah Cyders appears as Grandma Stahlbaum. Dr. John Moser of Ashland narrates the ballet, and ARB alumnus Mark Koehler reprises his roles of Grandpa Stahlbaum and the infamous Rat King.

In addition to ARB company members, the production is supported by a vibrant ensemble of Opus II Dance Studio students, whose energy and enthusiasm help make this timeless classic a holiday favorite for audiences of all ages.

The Nutcracker features original choreography by ARB Founder and Executive Director Hellie Schussler, staged by Sarah Cyders and Ann Marie Benshoff-Todd.
