NEW LONDON — Firelands Electric Cooperative, in partnership with Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), will sponsor up to two students on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 14 to 20.

Firelands Electric, A Touchstone Energy Cooperative, is a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative providing electric service to over 9,200 homes and businesses in rural areas of Ashland, Huron, Lorain, and Richland counties.

Applicants must be high school sophomores or juniors living in a home receiving its power from the cooperative.

Since the late 1950s, NRECA’s Youth Tour has brought tens of thousands of high school students to Washington, D.C., for a week in June.

Through educational and sightseeing activities, students participating in Youth Tour

gain a better understanding of American history and their role as citizens. They also have the opportunity to meet and talk with congressional and government leaders.

While student groups are organized at the state level, students from across the country come together for Youth Day, where they meet new friends and hear featured speakers who provide insight into the important role that electric cooperatives play in their local communities.

The students chosen to represent Firelands Electric will join approximately 50 other delegates from electric cooperatives across Ohio — plus nearly 1,800 from across the nation — as they tour the sights in and around our nation’s capital.

Additional information and the link to the online application for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity are available at www.firelandsec.com/youth-tour-experience.

Youth Tour applications must be completed online by 4 p.m. on Jan. 23, 2026.

If you have questions regarding the Youth Tour program, please contact Firelands Electric Cooperative’s Member Services Dept. at 1-800-533-8658 or members@firelandsec.com.
