ASHLAND — The Ashland Public Library, Ashland County Park District, and the Ashland Center for Nonviolence are thrilled to announce a community partnership event in honor of Leopold Week.

The event, “Voices of the Land: Readings and Activities Inspired by Aldo Leopold,” will be held March 7 with one session at 1 p.m. and another 2:30 p.m. at The Davy McClure Outdoor Education Center located at Tom Kruse Wildlife Conservation Park.

This special celebration invites community members to reflect on their relationship with the natural world and explore their land ethic through a series of engaging activities centered around Aldo Leopold’s classic work, “A Sand County Almanac.”

“’A Sand County Almanac’ is an iconic and important text with the power to reshape how we see the natural world around us–not just as natural resources but as a community that we are a part of.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to draw attention to Leopold’s message through the public reading of his book,” said Mary Meixner, Naturalist & Outreach Coordinator, Ashland County Park District.

Readings from “A Sand County Almanac,” will be held to enhance the connection between Leopold’s work and the audience. If you would like to read a passage aloud during the event, please express your interest when registering.

Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of “A Sand County Almanac,” and young explorers will leave with a nature-inspired picture book. The event also includes a Storytime and craft session, perfect for participants of all ages to foster a love for the great outdoors.

The event will conclude with a nature walk, providing a firsthand experience of nature’s beauty. Please note that almanacs, picture books, and craft supplies are available while supplies last.

Anyone wishing to attend is encouraged to register for, “Voices of the Land: Readings and Activities Inspired by Aldo Leopold,” on March 7th, by visiting the Ashland Public Library events calendar through the website or by contacting the library at 419-289-8188.

This event was made possible by the collective effort of Ashland Public Library, Ashland County Park District, and the Ashland Center for Nonviolence.

This event is, in part, sponsored by the Aldo Leopold Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin, with a mission to foster a land ethic through the legacy of Aldo Leopold.
