Mapleton wrestling had three girls in action Sunday during its Northeast sectional at Northwest High School, sending two on to next Sunday’s district tournament at Mentor.

Continuing her stellar senior season, Skylar Hopstetter made it into the championship match at 135 pounds behind a pair of second-period pins before finishing runner-up to United’s Auston Brown.

Hopstetter, who became the first girl in Ashland-area history to win 100 career matches earlier this season, is now a three-time district qualifier and is 31-3 this year.

Also moving on for the Mounties was junior Sara Drake, who collected a pair of decision victories before claiming fourth at 130 to advance to her first district tournament.

Additional junior Kaylee Gault finished her season in sixth place at 125.

Loudonville’s girls also were in action at the same sectional, sending three to the mats as well, but none were able to advance.

Sophomore Natalya Miller won a pair of matches at 130 on her way to sixth place, while also competing for the Redbirds were freshmen Rylee Denny (115) and Maci Eikleberry (155).

Elyria won the 29-team tournament with 218.5 team points. Mapleton was 11th as a squad with 39.
