Jerry D. Smart went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at his home in Florida after an extended illness. He was 83.
He was born May 9, 1943 to Lee and Leone Smart in Perrysville, Ohio. He graduated from Perrysville High School and married his high school sweetheart, Alice “Jeanie” Caudill in 1960. They resided in Perrysville and Bellville, Ohio throughout their 37 years of marriage while raising three children.
He worked several jobs, but being his own boss is what satisfied him most. He owned Smart’s Union 76 for twenty years. After “retirement “ he obtained his real estate and auctioneer’s license. He shared these new adventures with his wife until her passing.
He is survived by his second wife of 20 years, Nancy Smart. His three children, Justine (Rob) Fellure, Edward (Nora) Smart and Jody (Tom) Clay. Eight grandchildren, Ben Fellure, Meghan Fellure, Sadie (Brian) Fox, Justin (Natasha Waltz) Fellure, Jasmine Smart, Tallin Smart, Allison Clay and Adeline Clay. Great-grandson Shawn Fellure. His sisters, Shirley Austin, Nancy Taylor, and Susie Draper.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Wigglesworth, Joyce Emery, and his twin brother Larry Smart.
The family is planning a private service in the future. We hope that you will cherish his memory by doing something he loved to do-spending quality time with loved ones, playing a board game with friends, or always being right and having the last word, which we will miss the most.
