LOUDONVILLE — Ashland County Prosecutor Christopher Tunnell selected Loudonville Police Department Det. Gary Hannan as the Ashland County Officer of the Month for March.

The announcement was made Friday afternoon via a press release from Tunnell.

Hannan was nominated by Tunnell for his recent work in a sexual assault case occurring in Loudonville, the release said.

His report was 61 pages long and he provided just shy of 70 files to the case file, including multiple text messages, screenshots, video, DNA results, search warrants and supplemental reports, according to the release.

Hannan’s investigation resulted in the filing of a juvenile complaint against a 17-year-old and an indictment against an adult for felony obstructing. Those cases are currently pending in the Ashland County Court of Common Pleas.

“Det. Hannan has historically been known for his bulldog-like determination in investigating cases, his thoroughness and his willingness to collaborate with other agencies,” Tunnell said.

“His most recent investigation isn’t out of the ordinary, it’s just a prime example of the way Gary Hannan does business. Oh yeah, he does it all while working part-time,” the prosecutor said.

The officer of the month is awarded a police duck by the prosecuting attorney. The ducks are highly prized by local law enforcement and are only awarded for exceptional work on felony cases, the release said.

“If you see Det. Hannan out and about, be sure to say ‘thank you’ and congratulate him for a job well done,” the release said.
