NEW LONDON, OHIO – Firelands EMS is proud to announce the receipt of a grant from the Ashland County Community Foundation, supporting our ongoing efforts to enhance emergency response capabilities for pediatric and infant patients across our service area.

This generous $5,500 grant funded the purchase of advanced life support (ALS) pediatric and infant simulator mannequins, allowing Firelands EMS to deliver more realistic, hands on training for high‐risk, low‐frequency emergencies.

These simulators will be used not only by Firelands EMS personnel, but also by responders from surrounding agencies who participate in our free monthly training programs.

“This generous support from the Ashland County Community Foundation directly strengthens our ability to care for the most vulnerable patients we serve,” said Chief Jeffrey Scott.

“These advanced pediatric and infant simulators elevate the realism and quality of our training, ensuring our responders — and those from surrounding agencies who join our monthly sessions —are better prepared for high‐risk, low‐frequency emergencies. The Foundation’s continued investment in Firelands EMS truly makes a lifesaving difference.”

The Foundation’s support builds on a previous grant that provided ALS pediatric response kits for our EMS squads—equipment that has already made a measurable difference in the care of vulnerable young patients.

“The Foundation’s commitment to Firelands EMS benefits every township in our district,” said Chase Galloway, president of the Firelands EMS Board of Directors.

“Their support ensures our responders have the tools, training, and confidence needed to deliver exceptional care when seconds matter most. This grant strengthens emergency readiness across our communities, and we are deeply grateful for their partnership.”

The Ashland County Community Foundation’s generosity and mission plays an instrumental role in ensuring Firelands EMS has the latest equipment, highest‐quality training, and strongest readiness posture for pediatric and infant emergencies. Their ongoing support directly enhances the safety and well‐being of families throughout our region.

Established in 1978, as a local government body and agency, Firelands EMS started as an all-volunteer agency to serve the Village of New London, including the Townships of New London, Fitchville (Huron County) and Ruggles, and Troy (Ashland County), and continues to serve as the areas 911 emergency service provider. Prior to Firelands EMS, emergencies were handled faithfully by Eastman funeral home for many years prior. Firelands EMS covers a service area of approximately 122 square miles and includes a staff of both dedicated volunteer and part-time EMS crew members.
