ASHLAND — The fates of six tax-renewal issues and two local liquor options on the local May primary ballot have been determined.
Below are results for each according to final, unofficial vote totals from boards of elections in Ashland, Wayne, Huron and Holmes counties.
Northwestern Local School District
Voters in Ashland and Wayne counties denied a five-year, 1.8-mill fixed-sum levy renewal for Northwestern Local School District, according to final, unofficial vote totals from boards of elections in Ashland and Wayne counties. Between the two counties, 699 voted against the levy compared to 548 who cast their ballots in favor of the renewal.
- Votes for the levy (Ashland County): 34 (47.22 percent).
- Votes against the levy (Ashland County): 38 (52.78 percent).
- Votes for the levy (Wayne County): 514 (43.74 percent).
- Votes against the levy (Wayne County): 661 (56.26 percent).
The property tax generated $456,400 annually for district expenses, including teacher salaries, school programming, operating costs and curriculum purchases, according to the district.
It cost district taxpayers approximately $63 a year per each $100,000 of property value, based on estimates from the Ashland County Auditor’s office.
Firelands Ambulance District
A five-year, 1-mill levy for ambulance and EMS in the Firelands Ambulance District was not renewed by voters in the primary. According to final, unofficial vote totals from boards of elections in Ashland and Huron counties, 478 voters cast their ballot against the renewal and 397 voted in favor.
- Votes for the levy (Ashland County): 169 (51.52 percent).
- Votes against the levy (Ashland County): 159 (48.48 percent).
- Votes for the levy (Huron County): 228 (41.68 percent).
- Votes against the levy (Huron County): 319 (58.32 percent).
The Huron County auditor estimated it would collect $134,120 annually. The cost to taxpayers was estimated to be $24 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value.
Jeromesville Community Fire District
A five-year, 1.5-mill levy renewal for fire protection and EMS for the Jeromesville Community Fire District was approved by voters, 354 to 133, according to final, unofficial vote totals from the Ashland County Board of Elections.
- Votes for the levy: 354 (72.69 percent).
- Votes against the levy: 133 (27.31 percent).
The county auditor estimates it will collect $133,160 annually. The cost to taxpayers is $17 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value.
Polk-Jackson-Perry Joint Fire District
Voters approved a five-year, 1.1-mill levy renewal for the Polk-Jackson-Perry Joint Fire District. The renewal passed 458 to 180 according to final, unofficial vote totals from the Ashland County Board of Elections.
- Votes for the levy: 458 (71.79 percent).
- Votes against the levy: 180 (28.21 percent).
The county auditor estimates it will collect $99,820 annually. The cost to taxpayers is $23 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value.
Clear Creek Township
A five-year, 1-mill levy renewal for roads in Clear Creek Township passed 117 to 57, according to final, unofficial vote totals from the Ashland County Board of Elections.
- Votes for the levy: 117 (67.24 percent).
- Votes against the levy: 57 (32.76 percent).
The county auditor estimates the levy will collect $34,045 annually, while costing taxpayers $21 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value.
Village of Loudonville
A five-year, 1.7-mill renewal levy for current operating expenses in the village of Loudonville was approved by voters. According to final, unofficial vote totals from boards of elections in Ashland and Holmes counties, the renewal passed 262 to 186.
The county auditor estimates it will collect $31,940 annually for the village. The cost to taxpayers is $10 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value.
- Votes for the levy (Ashland County): 254 (58.26 percent).
- Votes against the levy (Ashland County): 182 (41.74 percent).
- Votes for the levy (Holmes County): 8 (66.67 percent).
- Votes against the levy (Holmes County): 4 (33.33 percent).
Results for two local liquor options
Ashland City 1-C, O’Bryan’s Pub Beer, 1065 Claremont Ave. (Sunday sales of beer, wine and mixed beverages and spiritous liquor):
- Votes for (yes): 231 (79.38 percent).
- Votes against (no): 60 (20.62 percent).
Loudonville 2, Dawg Pound, 3120 County Road 3175 (Sunday sales of wine and mixed beverages and spiritous liquor):
- Votes for (yes): 167 (66.53 percent).
- Votes against (no): 84 (33.47 percent).
