NANKIN — Paige Scott, a second grader from Mapleton Elementary School, recently competed at the All American Youth Horse Show at the Ohio State Fairgrounds.

The show took place during the second week of May.

Daughter of Jeremy and Emily Scott, Paige Scott showed her Quarter Horse, Cowboy Superhero, in several classes, including both Western and English showmanship, walk/trot Western Pleasure and pattern classes.

She came away with several blue and red ribbons in both the regular classes as well as the championship classes.

The All American Youth Horse Show started in 1968 as a way to provide funds for the
Franklin County fairgrounds. The first show took place at the Ohio Expo Center and lasted two-and-a-half days.

This event has grown over the years and now attracts youth from all over Ohio, in addition to youth from neighboring states. It now features a four-day show bill for all disciplines.

All youth up to the age of 18 are welcome to compete in the multi-judged event
which now uses 4 different arenas.

According to Paige Scott, she likes the Youth Show because she loves showing Cowboy and the arenas are really big. Her favorite class is Western Pleasure, she said.

She doesn’t get nervous when showing because the second grader is having too much fun. Her favorite memory is winning the Championship 8 and Under class and the big ribbon sash around Cowboy’s neck, she said.

You will find Paige riding Cowboy two to three times each week at SS Performance Horses in Ashland. Her parents own the training/breeding facility so its easy to understand why she loves horses.

Cowboy is Paige’s second horse. She began showing horses at age 2 and showed Milton in lead line. This cowgirl then graduated to the walk/trot classes for small fry. The
feisty second grader belongs to the local saddle club — The Ashland Paint and Plain Saddle Club — and shows there four times a year.

Besides the All American Youth Horse Show, Paige Scott enjoys traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma to the Pinto World Show each June. Her bedroom is decorated with ribbons, prizes and trophies.

There is a display case to show all of her buckles. She admits her favorite prizes are the buckles. Although she has to rise early and get her Cowboy ready, she doesn’t mind the work.

Paige Scott is having too much fun.
