ASHLAND — Spectators lined the streets of downtown Ashland Saturday to celebrate Independence Day during America’s 250th Birthday Bash Parade.

Sponsored by Ashland Elks Lodge #1360, the parade stepped off at 10 a.m., featuring first responders, veterans, the Ashland County Community Marching Band, local organizations and decorated floats.

The route began at Claremont and College avenues, traveled along East Main Street and ended on Union Street.

Organizations passed out free bottled water to spectators and participants on another hot day.

The parade is one of several events planned throughout the day for Ashland’s semiquincentennial celebration. Visit the Pump House District at 2 p.m. for the Freedom Park and historic monument dedication. 250 veterans and active-duty service members will be present for the ceremony.

The final celebration begins at 5 p.m. at Freer Field and will feature food vendors, live music and a fireworks grand finale.
