JACKSON TOWNSHIP — A Fostorial woman was killed and an Apple Creek man suffered minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash in Jackson Township, according to the Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Karen Roth, 69, was transported to Fostoria Hospital where she was later pronounced dead as a result of the injuries she sustained. Joseph C. Hart, 26, sustained minor injuries and was not transported from the scene.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:54 p.m. on Friday at the State Route 12 intersection with County Road 592 in Seneca County.
Roth was driving a white, 2003 Chevrolet Impala west bound on County Road 592. Hart was operating a white 2015 Ford F350 pulling a utility trailer southwest bound on State Route 12.
According to the Patrol, Roth failed to yield from the stop sign at the intersection, pulled into the path of Hart’s vehicle and was struck on the passenger side. Both vehicles then traveled off the northwest corner of the intersection, struck wires from a utility pole, and came to rest in the yard of a private residence.
Roth was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, the Patrol stated.
At this time, drug/alcohol impairment is not suspected but remains under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department, The Kansas Fire Department, Seneca County EMS, John’s Towing, and Reinhart Towing.
