ASHLAND — The Ashland Symphony Orchestra will present “Impressions” on Saturday, March 12 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Robert M. and Janet L. Archer Auditorium.
The ASO is auditioning five candidates for the position of Music Director/Conductor. Each will program and conduct a concert during the 2021-2022 season.
Raphael Jiménez is on the podium. Jiménez has selected Quiet City by American composer Aaron Copland; Impressions by contemporary Brazilian composer Clarice Assad; and Symphony No.5, B-flat major by Viennese composer Franz Schubert. This program is presented without intermission.
Praised for his “tightly wrought” and “stirring, vividly shaped” renditions (New York Times) and for creating music with “delicious buoyancy and impeccable taste” (Washington Times), Raphael Jiménez is celebrated for his work with orchestras around the world, with recent engagements in China with the symphony orchestras of Zhejiang and Guanxi, in Latin America with the symphony orchestras of Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Puerto Rico, as well as leading the opera orchestras of Lubeck in Germany and Palm Beach in Florida.
He is currently the Director of Orchestras and Professor of conducting at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and he has frequently been acknowledged for his remarkable ability to lead, masterfully train, and inspire young players to perform at the highest level.
