ASHLAND — The Ashland YMCA recently surpassed its fundraising goal of $3.6 million that will finance an expansion at the Miller Street facility, expected to begin as soon as May 25.
The YMCA kicked off its capital campaign in November, when officials there released details on a plan to make indoor renovations, revamp the parking lot and build a new gymnastics gymnasium.
Campaign co-chairs Tim and Aaron Rowsey said the campaign resulted in $4 million raised for the project, with a $2 million gift from Bob and Jan Archer leading the way.
“The five-month campaign has been exceedingly successful and will enable the Y to better meet the needs of our community in the future,” said Molly Riley, the Y’s executive director.
Riley said the YMCA will host a groundbreaking ceremony on May 25 and said she expects the new gym to be completed by the end of the year. Interior renovations are to take place through 2023.
She said there may be “some inconvenience” with the construction over the next 18 months.
“No significant disruption of service is anticipated,” she said.
