LOUDONVILLE — The Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village Schools Board of Education approved raises for non-union employees and entered into a contract with the village of Loudonville to provide police officers for the district’s events at its Monday meeting.
The board voted for non-union employees to retroactively receive a 5-percent raise for the current school year in an effort to mirror the 4-percent pay bumps that the board approved for union members at its previous meeting in September.
But in a rare departure from unanimity, Board Member David Hunter voted against the non-union raises, saying they should be equal to previous union raises.
“We gave the teachers and everyone else 4 percent, so I thought it should have been 4 percent,” he said after the meeting.
The extra percent for non-union employees is because they do not have access to step raises, where union employees slowly get paid more the longer they’re in the job, said board Vice President Judy Briggs.
The school board also approved a contract with the village of Loudonville to provide police officers for school events.
The new agreement is largely unchanged from previous years, except now Loudonville police officers are charging the district time-and-a-half for their work for the district. Previously, the police only earned regular wages for their time at school events.
Briggs praised the Loudonville police for their work at the school’s sporting events, saying they had recently managed to stop rambunctious children from playing behind the bleachers at football games.
“They did a great job the last home game,” she said.
The board’s next regular meeting is Nov. 21. The full agenda from Monday’s meeting is available here.
