I trust our librarians to conscientiously choose what books are on our library shelves.

I trust them because they’re well-studied, well-trained individuals who personally believe in the benefits of lifelong learning so much that they’ve dedicated their lives to public libraries.

I trust parents to decide what books are appropriate for their children, and to accept that they are responsible for knowing what their children are doing.

Censorship is unacceptable.

The librarians in this case have done their jobs in taking the complaint seriously, reviewing the books, and confirming that they find the books suitable.

They’ve been very transparent in explaining the process of book selection and physical placement in the library. And they’ve graciously gone beyond what’s necessary by meeting publicly twice now on the issue with people who are 1. completely inflating what’s actually shown and explained in these books and 2. threatening to bring more people in to bully the librarians.

Support your librarians!

The library board holds meetings on the second Thursday of each month. The next is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 11.
