ASHLAND — The Ashland Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its 53rd season with its “Fanfare for a New Beginning” concert on Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
It will be a new beginning for the season and for the orchestra’s new music director and conductor Michael Repper, who joined the group in June.
“It is my great privilege to welcome you to our concerts at the marvelous Robert Janet L. Archer Auditorium. I am incredibly proud to be taking the helm as Ashland’s new Music Director, and to continue to grow this jewel of Ashland County,” he said in a press release.
“We are going to make tremendous music together and enjoy a wonderful communal spirit,” he said in a press release.
Attendees of the Sept. 10 concert will hear Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, Ethiopia’s Shadow in America by Florence Prince, and Symphony No. 2, op. 75, D major by Johannes Brahms.
Much of composer Florence Price’s work was lost to history until a massive cache of her work was uncovered in an abandoned home in Illinois in 2009, according to an article in The New Yorker.
The Ashland Symphony Orchestra’s performance will possibly be only the second time Ethiopia’s Shadow in America has been heard in Ohio, according to the orchestra’s website.
New this year are free tickets for children and students—including college students—with a purchase of an adult or senior ticket. Adult tickets cost $24, and senior tickets cost $21.
The orchestra is also launching a Fan Club for high schoolers and college students, where members can pay $10 for access to concert tickets.,membership cards, Instagram contests, and merchandise.
The orchestra’s season schedule is as follows:
- Sept. 10 “Fanfare for a New Beginning”
- Oct. 8 “Dynamic Duos”
- Nov. 27 Family Holiday Pops
- Jan. 21, “Classical Rock”
- March 4, “Color Me Happy!”
