ASHLAND — The Ashland Young Professionals (AYP) recently raised over $11,000 at its second charity golf outing that was later donated to the Homeward Bound Dog Shelter and The Cat House Feline Sanctuary.
A total of 25 golf teams, along with sponsors like Simonson Construction and Bill Harris Auto Center, managed to rake in the $11,000, more than five times what the golf outing raised in 2021.
At the first outing in 2021, the golfers almost unanimously chose to donate their money to the local animal shelters. But they didn’t want to choose just dogs or just cats, so they decided to split their earnings in two, giving $1,000 to each shelter, AYP Liasion Emily Grimm said.
The plan this time was to donate at least $5,000 to each shelter, and they managed to exceed that goal. This year, the AYP cut a large check for $5,500 to each shelter, Grimm said.
“They were definitely shocked that we not even hit that goal, but we managed to surpass it,” she said.
The Cat House Feline Sanctuary “greatly appreciated” the donation from AYP, shelter supervisor Ryan Williams said. As a small shelter, they often do not have the manpower or the time to do fundraising events of their own.
But at least in the case of the golf outing, instead of the shelter coming to the money, the money came to the shelter.
“We greatly appreciate all the time and effort they put into organizing that and helping us raise that money, and so it greatly helps with our day-to-day expenses moving forward,” Williams said.
These day-to-day expenses include vaccines, medicines, food, and litter for the shelter’s 60 cats, he added.
The other $5,500 went to the Homeward Bound Dog Shelter, a non-profit that is raising money for Ashland County’s new, state-of-the-art dog shelter set to be built near the Ashland County Fairgrounds.
Further donations for the Homeward Bound Dog Shelter can be sent to its mailing address, while donations for the Cat Sanctuary can be submitted online or in the mail.
