ASHLAND — Ashland City School’s Board of Education approved a re-design and renovation of Ashland High School’s baseball field at its meeting Monday.

In late summer, Ashland City Schools learned the varsity baseball field did not meet Ohio High School Athletics Association standards that govern things like mound height and base distance, Supt. Doug Marrah said.

To fix these problems, the district began working on assembling a bid for construction companies to come in and renovate the fields.

Additionally, the district is also planning to add more drainage to the baseball field alongside the OHSAA renovations.

Bids for the field renovations come in on Sept. 26, and it’s essential that work begins soon to ensure the fields are ready for the baseball season, Marrah said.

“That’s why we want to get going, so be able to get grass growing for the spring,” he said.

The project will not exceed $65,000, and a portion of it will be paid by donations from Ashland’s baseball parents.

“I just want to thank our baseball parents for their generosity and stepping forward for the donation,” board member Gina Deppert said.

Marrah also updated the board on the district’s other ongoing construction projects at the high school and the district’s storage building.

New lockers are starting to be installed at the high school, and renovations on the district’s storage building have moved on to the roof, he said.
