ASHLAND — Sixteen educators serving Ashland County schools were awarded grants totaling $10,434.27 after the Ashland County Community Foundation Board of Trustees ratified Teacher Mini-Grant awards for 2017-2018.
The grant recipients were recognized and honored at an informal reception held at the Foundation on Nov. 16. The teachers receiving grants are as follows:
Alyson Baker, Hillsdale Middle School, was awarded a grant to purchase supplies for “Developing Life-Long Readers With a 40 Book Challenge” project.
Carly Black, Ashland Middle School, received a grant to purchase materials for the “Blog All the Books” project.
BreAnn Fennell, Reagan Elementary School, was awarded a grant to purchase supplies for the “Mag-nificant Science for Early Grades” project.
Nichole Helenthal, Ashland County Community Academy, received a grant to help fund the “Reading for Their Future” initiative.
Troy McMillen, Mapleton High School, was awarded a grant to help support the “Electricity – Forces, Fields and Electrons” project.
Christine Mickley, Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center, received a grant to purchase equipment for the “Health Wise Living” project.
Tiki Peterson, Hillsdale Middle School, was awarded a grant to purchase materials for the “Lab Supplies” initiative.
Kristy Shearer, Ashland Middle School, received a grant to purchase equipment for the “Ping Pong Projectiles” project.
Christy Vance, Reagan/Edison Elementary Schools, was awarded a grant to support the “3D Printing for Elementary Students” project.
Jarrod Vance, Ashland Middle School, received a grant to purchase materials for the “Move Towards Excellence – Ramping It Up” initiative.
Distributions from the ARTSDREAM Fund, a component of the Teacher Mini-Grants program specifically for projects in the arts, were awarded to:
Katie Hennessy, Mapleton Middle School, was awarded a grant to help support the “Middle School Creative Writing Program” initiative.
Carol Kinney, Ashland Middle School, received a grant to purchase equipment for the “Percussion Instruments for 6th Grade General Music” project.
Jeri Millhouse, Ashland Middle School, was awarded a grant to help support the “DON’T Save the Drama for Your Mama!” presentation and project.
Distributions from the Sandy Brown Honorary Vocal Music Fund, a component of the Teacher Mini-Grants program specifically for projects in vocal music, were awarded to:
Stephanie Hanson, Ashland City Schools, received a grant to purchase materials for the “Utilizing Tech to Enhance the Music Classroom Through Reflection & Assessment” project.
David Wolbert, Ashland Middle School, was awarded a grant to help support the “World Music Experience” performance and project.
Additionally, a grant to Neos Dance Theatre, Ashland, was awarded to help support the “M.A.D.E. in Ashland” artists in residence program.
ACCF is pleased to offer the Mini-Grant program for Ashland County schools, both public and private. These grants (up to $750) go directly to teachers and are intended to foster educational innovation by funding creative ideas not supported by regular school budgets. Deadline for mini-grant application is September 8 of each year.
