There’s no other way to describe it.
If recently released information is accurate, some of the organizations opposing Ohio Issue 1 in the Aug. 8 special election are — pure and simple — hypocrites!
Issue 1 would raise the voter threshold to amend Ohio’s Constitution to 60 percent from the current simple majority (50 percent plus 1).
It also would require citizen initiatives to have signed petitions from all 88 counties. Presently, only 44 counties are required.
These organizations reportedly are opposing Issue 1: the Democrat Party of Ohio, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, League of Women Voters, NAACP, and various teachers’ unions.
According to Vote Yes Ohio, which supports Issue 1, each one of those organizations requires at least a 60-percent majority when voting on internal matters.
If that’s true, no doubt those groups support a higher minimum because it means even more members support something. Widespread agreement is critical for unity.
So if 60 percent is good for them, why isn’t it good for the State of Ohio? It is good for Ohio — for the same reasons!
Don’t listen to the opponents of Issue 1. Passage will defeat their selfish, hidden agendas, often aimed at imposing leftwing policies on us.
Vote yes on Issue 1. Give more Ohioans a greater voice when it comes to amending our constitution.
