ASHLAND — Portions of around a dozen roads throughout Ashland County remain closed Thursday afternoon as officials wait for waters to recede.
According to Anne Strouth, the county’s EMA director, the following roads are closed because of high water.
- U.S. Route 250: Between 175 & 63, between U.S. 224 and 388, the intersection with State Route 60,
- State Route 302:Â Between Wayne County Line & 175 and the intersection with Township Road 851.
- State Route 58:Â Between 620 and 700, just north of U.S. 224, at house number 63
- Township Road 1275:Â Between State Route 89 & County Road 1302 due to a sinkhole
- County Road 1102 bridge is closed near 1092
- State Route 511 is closed at the intersection with Township Road 975
- County Road 1302: between U.S. 42 and Township Road 753, near the Ashland Community Soccer Park.
- County Road 1950 in Jeromesville
- Â County Road 1600: between State Route 89 & County Road 1575
- Township Road 126: between house numbers 1172-1260
- County Road 1175 near Gerwigs
- The intersection of Township Road 851 and State Route 302
- The 100 block of County Road 1181 (Ruggles Township)
- Township Road 281, north of Township Road 150
- County Road 1302, west of Township Road 523
Rescues of people and vehicles continued Thursday morning as heavy rain moved across Ashland County, officials reported.

Sheriff Wayne Risner said the agency’s dive squad performed four rescues Thursday morning. Five people were involved in the rescues. Two were transported to the hospital to be checked for injuries.
No other injuries were reported as of 1 p.m.
Ashland County EMA Director Anne Strouth said many roads remain flooded, and at least one has been washed out.
One of the rescues happened in Perry Township along Township Road 1275, near the intersection with State Route 89. Deputies rescued a man and his son after the vehicle entered a washed out culvert, according to officers on the scene.
The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning on its Facebook page Thursday morning, along with photos of the agency’s call logs since Aug. 23:
“Road Conditions throughout the county are hazardous. Be careful and please do not drive through flooded roadways.”
Strouth said she was working to get more details put together at around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Forecast

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Ashland, Holmes and Richland counties early Thursday morning. It is in effect until 11:30 a.m.
A flood watch is also in effect in the region until 8 a.m. Aug. 25.
“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks,” reads the NWS alert.
The weather is predicted to clear by Friday morning, with the day’s high set for 82. The chance of precipitation that day is 20%.
