MANSFIELD — Veteran Richland Source sports reporter Curt Conrad was recognized as the top columnist when the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association announced the winners of its annual writing contest Monday.
The contest included submissions from 2023 and was judged by OPSWA members.
There were four writing categories in three divisions based on circulation size. Each category was judged by two members from another division.
Writers and photographers were judged on a body of work that included three submissions per category.
A Hillsdale High School graduate, Conrad won first place in column writing and tied for second in game coverage. Richland Source competes in Division I for traditional newspapers with a daily circulation of more than 10,000 and web sites.
The OPSWA works to support and enhance the coverage of high school sports in Ohio and to recognize superior writing among sports journalists.
In 2010, the OPSWA partnered with the Ohio High School Athletic Association to create a website, establish electronic communications and increase its membership and recognition. OPSWA membership now stands at 218 writers and photographers around the state.
