Robert Eugene Norris, 80, of Gahanna, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024, surrounded by family.

Bob was born in Marion, Ohio, to Robert Day Norris and Mary Jean (Miller) Norris on March 21, 1944. He graduated from Radnor High School in 1963 where he was a standout basketball player. He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn (Courtney) Norris, on September 10, 1967.

He was employed by the City of Ashland of Engineering Department for 11 years prior to using his outgoing personality in sales with Dura-Bilt Products and then Contractors Lumber Supply where he enjoyed engaging with the Amish community. He proudly served 6 years in the Army National Guard in Delaware, Ohio, and 20 years with the 179th Air National Guard in Mansfield before retiring in 1993. In semi-retirement he took great pride in being the “sign guy” for Ward Real Estate by installing over 1000 yard signs, driving for Ashland Area Council on Aging, and occasionally making cheese runs for Grandpa’s Cheesebarn. He was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and New Beginnings Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Randy (Christina) of Liberty Township, Ohio, and daughter Jennifer (Jamie) Goldsberry of Gahanna. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Timothy. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren – Anna and Isabel Norris, Lyda and Brennen Goldsberry, and Carter, Jackson and Avery Norris.

Bob approached life with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed bringing laughter with his quick wit, ornery jokes, and rowdy limericks. He was a stranger to none as everywhere he went, he either made a friend or saw someone he knew. Bob loved attending his kids’ and grandkids’ activities. He was always up for a road trip, family vacations, game/poker night, and cornhole at the Elks Club. Bob cherished bringing joy to kids and adults alike as Santa Claus. He celebrated his 80th birthday in March singing karaoke with family and friends.

Funeral service will be Thursday, June 27, at Christ United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Tom Snyder. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. with service following at 1:00 p.m. and interment at Radnor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the City of Ashland and designated for Candy Cane Trail project, 206 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
