Individuals with special needs and their families enjoyed tethered hot air balloon rides at the Summer Splash event.

ASHLAND — Ashland County individuals with special needs and disabilities and their families were invited to the Ashland County Fairgrounds last month for an evening of all-inclusive fun.

The Summer Splash event, organized and funded by Samaritan Hospital Foundation, included a variety of activities and food throughout the evening.

Individuals with special needs and their families enjoyed tethered hot air balloon rides, a petting zoo, motorcycle rides, fire trucks from the Ashland Fire Department, nail painting, a catered meal and live music.

“This event was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our individuals,” said Jeanie Simon, support manager for Innovative Support Services.

“As a provider agency for individuals with developmental disabilities, I cannot express the gratitude that we feel for Samaritan Hospital Foundation and all the other organizations that assisted with making this event possible.

“The smiles and excitement that we witnessed that day were phenomenal.”

“The Samaritan Hospital Foundation brought joy to our friends and the community during the Summer Splash event at the fairgrounds,” said Christina Teevan, executive director of Ashland Special Needs Ministry.

“This event designed to encourage, serve, and allow our friends with special needs to go on hot air balloon rides, ride motorcycles, eat yummy food and socialize all night was a beautiful night of laughter, excitement, huge smiles, and new adventures.

“Ashland Special Needs Ministry cannot thank the Samaritan Hospital Foundation enough for loving our friends and giving them a summer night to remember.”
