John Heath Meyer, 76, of Ashland, Ohio, passed away peacefully at University Hospital in Ashland on July 16, 2024.
He was born on August 6, 1947 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Reverend Virgil and Marjorie (Heath) Meyer.
John graduated from Ashland High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in education from Ashland College. He served as a First Lieutenant in the US Air Force from 1971-1975. He was an air traffic controller during the Vietnam War before his honorable discharge.
After his discharge from the services, he held a variety of teaching and sales positions before finally retiring from his maintenance role at First English Lutheran Church around 2013. He is survived by his older sister Janet Sprague and her sons, Benjamin and Johnny, and his younger sister, Julie (Rob) Keller, and her children Andrew and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his two daughters, Jill (Dean) Acker, and their children Ella (20) and Elijah (18), and Jennifer Meyer and her boys Westin (13), Calvin (10), and Adrien (8).
John loved Western books and all Ohio sports. He loved his Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. He was also a member of the Eagles in Ashland, Ohio. John mostly kept to himself throughout his later life, but if you were lucky enough to be his friend, he was a very faithful friend.
Per his wishes, no services will be held. His children would like to express their sincere gratitude to Gentiva Hospice Care for all of the love and support they provided to John in his final days. They would especially like to thank Nurse Ashley as she was his own personal angel and he loved her very much. She brought them much comfort knowing she was with him when they could not be there.
