NORTH CANTON — Walsh earned its first win over Ashland in 10 tries by ending the Eagles’ seven-game winning streak on Saturday with a 24-10 upset.

The defeat was also AU’s first loss in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, dropping Doug Geiser’s squad to 7-3 overall, 7-1 in the GMAC.

Walsh struck first with 7:33 to go in the opening quarter, as Dante Walker scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Walsh made it a 10-0 advantage on the first play of second quarter on a 20-yard field goal by Trent Doerfler.
 
Ashland put its first points on the board when sophomore tailback Ty’aris Stevenson went in on a 1-yard run to cut the deficit to 10-7.
 
The Eagles then knotted the score at 10-10 with 4:28 to go in the third period when junior kicker A.J. Rhodes hit a 24-yard field goal.
 
Following an Eagle turnover inside the Walsh 10-yard line early in the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers cashed in on a 91-yard touchdown pass from T.C. Molk to Garrett Waite.

Walsh then took a two-touchdown lead with 4:01 to go when Molk found Trey Martin for an 83-yard strike.
 
Junior defensive end Michael Shimek finished Saturday with 12 total tackles (nine solo), 2½ tackles for loss and two sacks.
