Sophie M. Wilson, 102, of Ashland passed away on Sunday evening, December 22, 2024, at Crystal Care in Ashland.

She was born on June 1, 1922, in Amsterdam, Ohio, the daughter of the late George and Sophia (née Kobilarcik) Ridzon.

Sophie graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1941 as the class salutatorian. She went onto further her education and graduated from Mercy Hospital in 1944 as a registered nurse.

She served in World War II as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp in the Philippines and the occupation of Japan.

After the war, she settled in the Cleveland area and attended Western Reserve University. She proudly worked as an industrial nurse, office nurse, psychiatric nurse and was the supervisor of central supply at St. Luke’s Hospital.

She married the love of her life, Warren R. Wilson in 1959. Sophie was a devoted member of St. Edward Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Ashland V.F.W. Post 1067 and the American Legion Post 0292 in New London. She was very passionate about traveling, cooking, caring for her animals, and spending time with family and friends.

Sophie is survived by two daughters, Carol Seguin of Ashland and Jeanie (Scott) Sturgill of Ashland; one granddaughter, Lisa (Michael) Oesch of North Canton; and two great granddaughters, Emilia and Olivia Oesch.
In addition to her parents, Sophie is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Warren Wilson, who passed away in 1989; one sister, Alice (John) Malloy; and one brother, Henry (Mildred) Ridzon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Rod Kreidler presiding. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in New London, Ohio. Friends may visit one hour prior to service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
