Garland Sellers, 85 of Ashland passed away early Saturday morning, February 15, 2025 in University Hospital, Samaritan Medical Center.

He was born on January 28, 1940 in Southport, North Carolina the son of the late Odell Yates and Sarah (nee Hewett) Sellers. Growing up, he was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Garland graduated from Shallotte High School, Class of 1958. Following high school, he proudly served in the North Carolina National Guard.

A boy from North Carolina and a girl from Ohio met by God’s providence when they were 16. Garland married the former Charlotte Keylor on November 19, 1960.

Garland retired in 2003 after more than 25 years from Custom Hoist in Hayesville and was previously employed as a truck driver in his earlier years.

He enjoyed woodworking and was like a jack of all trades. You would often find Garland taking time out of his day to feed both birds and squirrels.

Garland is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mrs. Charlotte Sellers of Ashland; his children, Amy (Dan) Long, Katie (Jared) Smeltzer, and Rob (Carolyn) Sellers; grandchildren, Zach (Lindsay) Long, Taylor Long, Evan (Kris Fife) Long, Will Long, and Jack (Aubri) Smeltzer; great-grandchildren, Colin, Natalie, and Rory Long; and one expected great-granddaughter, Maisie Elizabeth, due on Friday.

In addition to his parents, Garland is preceded in death by his six sisters, Edith Chadwick, Elva Gray Crawford, Nellie Sue Creech, Annie “Ruth” Bracken, Betty Ann Sellers, and Berta Barnes; and two brothers, Quentin “Bob” and Stacy Sellers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Kevin McClain and Pastor Jared Smeltzer presiding. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home. A private family interment will be on Friday, February 21, 2025 in the Ashland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Radio Program, 508 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
