ASHLAND — Ashland Area Economic Development is seeking $230,000 in state funding to demolish eight vacant buildings.

Cameo Carey, the agency’s director, said she submitted an application to the Ohio Department of Development on Nov. 18, a day before the deadline.

The ODOD announced in October there will be $230,000 earmarked for demolitions in each of the state’s 88 counties, but each county still needs to apply and list each structure it desires to raze.

Should the county receive the funds, money will be disbursed in July 2026, according to the state’s press release announcing the funding round.

Last year, Ashland County received just north of $1 million to tear down 12 structures, including two industrial properties and one commercial building in or near Ashland’s downtown.
