Hallie Lyn Babin, 43, of Ashland, Ohio, passed peacefully while surrounded by family Saturday January 31, 2026 at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital from complications due to colorectal cancer.
She was born May 17, 1982, in Ashland, to Craig and Dianna (nee Vale) Whitmore.
Hallie graduated from Ashland High School in 2000 where she was a member of the Symphonic, Jazz, and Marching Bands and earned varsity letters competing in cross country, swimming, and track. Before completing college, Hallie joined the Army Reserves and later earned an undergraduate degree in History from The Ohio State University in 2009 and an MBA from Ashland University in 2013.
In the Army Reserves, Hallie served for 10 years as an enlisted combat medic. In 2011, she received her commission as a medical service corps officer, rising to the rank of Major in 2025. Over her military career, Hallie served two combat missions in Iraq and completed multiple aid missions throughout the world. She earned many awards and decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. She was especially proud to represent the Army Reserve Officer Corps with her NATO medical officer counterparts in Athens, Greece in 2022. At the time of her death, Hallie was still serving as an executive officer at the 256th Field Hospital in Twinsburg, Ohio.
Aside from her career in the United States Army, Hallie was a Warehouse Operations Director at Amazon in Twisburg, Ohio. She spent her last two years as a substitute teacher at Ashland Middle School.
Hallie was an adventurer who loved traveling the world with her daughter Annabelle. She had an appetite for new experiences like learning to scuba dive in the Caribbean and piloting Cessna planes around Ohio. Hallie passed on her lifelong love of running, skiing, and hiking to her daughter. While at home, Hallie enjoyed balancing crossfit and lazy days with Annabelle and her Ragdoll cat, Sir Wallace Wiggles.
Hallie is survived by her daughter, Annabelle; her parents, Craig and Dianna Whitmore of Ashland; her sisters, Heather (Bradley) Harris of New London and Heidi (Michael) Moore of Ashland; her brother, Jeremy (Sumer Riley) Whitmore; her nieces, Morgan (Casey) Jones, Kaya Swisher, Mikayla (Luke) Kocab, Karina (Lucas) Gross, Madeline Moore; her nephews, Charlie, and Tyler; and great-nieces Violet and Georgia.
Hallie is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Harvey and Marcella (née Estes) Whitmore and her maternal grandparents, Richard and Georgiana (née Hott) Vale.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life open house on February 21, 2026, from 11 am – 4 pm at the Wellness and Community Center at Brethren Care Village, 2130 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805. Interment will follow at a later date.
