A week after its dominant performance in the Ohio Cardinal Conference Championships, the Ashland boys wrestling team stormed its way to yet another title Saturday at its Division I Maple Heights Sectional.

The Arrows qualified 13 wrestlers off to next week’s Wadsworth District, piling up 251.5 team points to run away from runner-up North Royalton (170.5).

An impressive 10 matmen competed in championship matches on the day for Ashland, which featured a quartet of sectional champs in Tyson Mateo (106), Max Ohl (120), Mason Bauer (two pins at 138) and Guardian Miller (150).

Runner-up finishes for the Arrows went to Kale Durig (113), Tuff Hutcheson (two pins at 157), Talon Boyd (165), Tristan Gibson (175), Bodie Smith (two pins at 190) and Budda Martin (215).

Meanwhile, the Arrows got a third-place effort from Paxton Young at 132, and moving on in fourth were Nick Manges (144) and Steven Garrett (two pins at HWT).

The area’s Division III teams also were scattered across four different sites Saturday. A breakdown on those results is below.

Division III at Plymouth

Crestview sent 10 wrestlers to the mats Saturday and landed in fifth place as a squad (113.5 points) a week after winning the Firelands Conference title.

Seven of the 10 CHS wrestlers advanced.

Senior Jack Stephens was the lone Cougar to make it into a championship match, taking the title at 175 with a pin.

Crestview picked up a trio of third-place finishes behind senior Dylan Burge (three technical falls at 132), junior Brayden Parrigan (138) and junior Bronson Rose (two pins at 215).

Also advancing to districts for the Cougars in fourth place were sophomore Sean Nolen (106), freshman Jayce Hinton (two pins at 120) and freshman Drake Foster (165).

Division III at Berkshire

Hillsdale put two wrestlers on the podium as runners-up Saturday, as freshman Bentley Denny went 3-1 at 126 and junior Colt McCoy had a pair of major decisions at 215.

Junior Landon Despot also battled for a berth at next week’s district, placing fourth after collecting two pins at 138.

Nabbing fifth-place district alternate spots for the Falcons were Ethan Myers (two pins at 113) and Reed Mager (two pins at 165).

Division III at Northwestern

Mapleton advanced two of its seven total wrestlers on to next week’s district tournament.

The top finisher for the Mounties was sophomore Lukus Jenkins, who took third at heavyweight with a trio of wins in the consolation bracket.

Meanwhile, freshman Jagger Jackson had a big day, pinning a pair of wrestlers on his way to fourth place at 157. He entered the day with a 4-12 record.

Division III at Rootstown

Fresh off his team’s lone individual title in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference a week earlier, Loudonville’s Brayden Marotta was the lone Redbird to advance to next week’s Independence District.

The senior was the runner-up at 157, pinning a pair of opponents in under a minute en route to second place.

Loudonville also had a pair of fifth-place district alternates in senior Trevor Dawson (165) and junior Josh Brown (126).
