CHIPPEWA TOWNSHIP – An 81-year-old Rittman woman was killed after a one-vehicle crash on Sunday night, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Rebecca J. Bishop, 81, of Rittman, was found dead at the scene, according to the Patrol. Bishop’s condition prior to the crash and her death remains under investigation, but natural causes are suspected.

The incident took place at 6:04 p.m. on County Road 70 (Doylestown Road) just east of
State Route 57 near Rittman in Wayne County.

The Patrol stated the person who reported the crash indicated the vehicle struck a tree and the single occupant, seated in the driver’s seat, did not respond to the attempts to rouse them. Emergency medical personnel, and troopers were dispatched to the scene.

The investigation revealed a light green 2014 Kia Soul was headed east on County Road 70 when it gradually drifted off the left side of the road where the road curved slightly to the right.

The vehicle traveled over 230 feet through a yard where it came to rest under a pine tree. The owner of the vehicle was found deceased in the driver’s seat.

Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Rittman Police, Chippewa EMS, the Wayne County Coroner’s Office, and Bear’s Towing.
