ASHLAND – An agency fund was recently created at Ashland County Community Foundation to help ensure funds are available for the care of Ashland Cemetery well into the future.
A donation from Jack Vanosdall, with a match from ACCF, led to the creation of an agency fund for the Ashland Cemetery Association, a nonprofit which serves as the Ashland Cemetery’s governing board.
This fund will help the board to maintain sustainability in the care of its property.
Jack was moved to create the fund to make sure the board had financial assistance available for maintenance and beautification needs.
“This is an important place to show our respect for those who have passed. Both of my parents, and all four of my grandparents are buried there,” he said. “Many veterans are buried there – including my father – and it is important that we show respect for their service,” he said.
The Ashland Cemetery Association Agency Fund gives donors a vehicle to support the care of the area for generations to come, especially as it continues to expand.
“I was pleasantly surprised when I learned of Jack’s monetary donation to the Ashland Cemetery. It was very thoughtful of him to choose us for his donation,” said Jim Doyle, President of the Ashland Cemetery Association Board.
“This cemetery has been here since 1856. It contains much of Ashland’s history. I see these funds being used to educate and preserve the cemetery for the future.”
According to Doyle, The Ashland Cemetery has 17,000 graves on 35 acres, with 35 acres still available for expansion.
The Ashland Cemetery Association Agency Fund is one of 99 agency funds at ACCF. The earning distributions from these endowments provide an ongoing source of income for operations and programs for nonprofits, with annual distributions amounting to approximately 4.5 percent of the fund balance.
As donors prioritize their charitable contributions during their lifetime or make their estate plans, this provides one more opportunity to support an aspect of Ashland County that is important to them.
