COLUMBUS — Mother Nature is not a high school track fan.

Storms rolled through central Ohio on Saturday, causing two delays at the state track meet inside Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The first delay came during the Division I preliminaries, causing a pause in the action for about 90 minutes. A second round of storms rumbled through the area around 5 p.m., causing an even longer delay during the Division II prelims.

The Division III finals, originally scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, didn’t start until around 9 p.m. and were not complete for this story.

The state meet will conclude Sunday with the Division I and Division II finals, weather permitting.

Podium Finisher

Mapleton’s Savannah Beane earned a pair of All-Ohio citations Saturday.

The senior placed fourth in the seated 100 in a 25.96 and took fifth in the seated 400 in 1:56.42.

“I felt like I warmed up good and I felt like I was able to run smoothly on the track,” Beane said. “I think having the competition of other seated athletes really helped out.

Moving On

Ashland’s Sadie Walter qualified for the final in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing first in her preliminary heat in 14.75. Walter has the second best time heading into Sunday’s finals.

Painesville Riverside’s Allison Urbas had the top time in the prelims, finishing in 14.35.

Prelims for the 300 hurdles were postponed because of the weather.
