Eric I. Mathiott, 70 of Ashland, formerly of Chesterland, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at his home.
He was born on January 31, 1956, in Ashland, the son of the late Harold and Carol (nee Edmonds) Mathiott.
Eric graduated from Lakewood High School, Class of 1974. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy where he was an aircraft mechanic on an aircraft carrier. His mechanical skills carried over into his later career and hobbies.
He retired in 2024 from Valley Transportation where he was a truck driver for many years.
Throughout his life, Eric enjoyed working with his hands and particularly enjoyed his many projects on his property. He also enjoyed woodworking, collecting tools, and welding. In his earlier years he loved spending time both opening and closing Tinnerman Canoe Base in Canada with the boy scouts.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ashland and a former member in Christ Presbyterian Church in Chesterland.
Eric is survived by three children, Bryceson Mathiott of Chesterland, Heidi Warren of Chesterland, and Rachael (Aaron) Ronzi of Mayfield Heights; two grandchildren, Zelie Warren and Mitchum “M.J.” Warren, both of Chesterland; and his three siblings, Ed (Carol) Mathiott of Brunswick, Ellen (Pat) Call of Vashon, Washington, and Elizabeth Mathiott Edmonds of Berea; along with nephews and a niece.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
An interment service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 9:45 a.m. in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
