ASHLAND – The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Ashland will once again serve as a Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) site in 2021 in conjunction with the USDA for the 12th consecutive year.
Many children who receive free or reduced-price lunch in school struggle with food insecurity as their families face the need for more food during the summer.
“The staff of the Ashland Kroc Center was delighted and honored to be able to serve the Ashland community last year through the Summer Food Service Program,” said Tim Haglund, Director of Development. “This year, we are looking forward to not only helping alleviate the economic burden that families feel during the summer months, but also to providing a fun atmosphere where kids can get together for a bit and learn new things.”
You can come to the Kroc for a free, healthy meal each weekday from June 14 to Aug. 13.
Carryout meals will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. for children under the age of 18. Snacks will be distributed as well during this period. No registration is required. Each week brings different themes and prizes for kids to win throughout the summer in conjunction with the meals.
Week one kicks off with a nature activity and kit.
During the summer months, many in Ashland turn to The Salvation Army for assistance. In fact, summer is The Salvation Army’s second busiest season of the year, after the period from Thanksgiving to Christmas. In addition to the SFSP, the Kroc Center will continue to provide community meals in carryout style at the front loop from 11 to 11:30 a.m., as well as operating the food pantry each weekday.
