ASHLAND – The Ashland Board of Realtors honored three of its own members during the Dec. 13, annual Christmas Party Luncheon & Installation.
The first award recognizes the service Affiliate members give to the association, the real estate industry and their community. The Affiliate Distinguished Service Award is given to an individual who is an Affiliate member of the Ashland Board of Realtors and has given exemplary service to the Board in four areas.
Willingness to serve the Board: via Committees, Attendance at Board luncheons and Board activities. Knowledgeable about their profession and willing to use and share their knowledge and information on issues that affect the real estate industry with entire membership.
Cooperative with the ABOR membership in day-to-day operations. Endeavor to improve conditions for all Realtors, clients, customers and the community. Business Banker with Huntington Bank, Mindi Cantrell checked all of those boxes and a few more.
“Cantrell has been in our realtor family for just a few years however, has made a huge impact in our association, community and industry,” said Misty Miller, Executive Officer for ABOR.
Cantrell is the Public Relations Chair for the association; with her leadership the association has been able to give back to the community in ways they never have before. As a Leadership Ashland graduate, she understands the importance of strong leadership in any organization and was instrumental in providing the ABOR Leadership Ashland Scholarship for the last two years.
Her dedication and attention to detail has made the ABOR Golf Outing & Euchre Tournament a huge success surpassing the committee’s expectations.
The second award is ABOR’s 2018 Realtor Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious award is given to a member in good standing of the Ashland Board of Realtors for at least two calendar years and has faithfully abided by all Ashland Board of Realtors Bylaws and Rules & Regulations. Nominees must also have met the following requirements:

4) Involvement in other board sanctioned/supported activities.
5) Held an office or director position.
6) Endeavor to improve conditions for all Realtors, clients, customers, Affiliates and the community.
ABOR had several nominees this year, which is a testament to the high level of excellence being set and achieved by their local members. However, there can only be one Realtor Distinguished Service Award winner.
Don Dilgard has been selling real estate in Ashland County for nearly 40 years and has served on several committees of ABOR from MLS to Legislative to Professional Standards. He also served as President of the Ashland Board of Realtors in 2007.
When asked about this year’s DSA by his Broker, Tiffany Meyer of Howard Hanna JC Meyer RELTORS® she said “He is always very supportive of agents in the office and the industry and wants to see us (as an industry) progress forward to protect the consumer.”
He and his wife of 58 years Sally, have two children and five grandchildren and owns The Parsley Pot.
The final award for 2018 is the coveted Honorary Member Award which honors members both past and present as defined in the Bylaws of the Ashland Board of Realtors.
Nominees must be at least 70 years of age, a past president or director or committee chairman of the board. Honorary members may not be actively engaged in real estate.
Ruth Detrow became a member over 20 years ago and quickly got involved in ABOR, first serving as RPAC Chairman, then on Legislative Committee, in 2000 serving as a Director and in 2001 Legislative Chair. She has also served as President in 2004, worked on Public Relations Committee, Professional Standards, MLS and Lockbox. Retiring from her second career of Real Estate in 2016, Detrow was a public school teacher for 30 years.
A former 3rd Ward City Council Representative Detrow is also active in the Center Street Association, Ashland Historical Association, Elks and Rotary.
Detrow said she was surprised at receiving the award.
“As a former realtor, I know how hard you all work and how important what you do is to both buyers and sellers,” Detrow said. “You are an importance piece in the picture of Ashland area success, and I am so honored to be remembered as a part of it.”
