ASHLAND — Ashland City Council weighed the potential addition of a roundabout Tuesday night while discussing the city’s three main roads.
Council approved looking into the possibility of reconfiguring the intersection of Cottage Street, Faultless Drive and U.S. 250 into a roundabout.
The city intends to apply for state grants that would fund this project. The application for these funds is due at to the County Engineer by the end of September.
“There will be more discussion on that in the coming months,” said city engineer Shane Kremsor.
Council also approved a number of storm water management projects, including adding a retention bed at Ashland Christian Church with Simonsen Construction. Work on that project is expected to begin this fall. Construction costs will be paid by the Storm Water Management Plan.
A sanitary sewer relocation on Highland Boulevard will begin soon. Root systems of mature and established trees are interfering with the sewer line.
This is the reason Highland Boulevard is not being paved this year, city officials said. Once the sewer issue is resolved, paving will be scheduled. A small section of Highland Boulevard was paved by Kokosing this year, with the rest projected to be completed next year.
“It’s quite a joy to be driving on freshly paved streets where it is so smooth and so nice,” said Dan Lawson, Councilman-at-Large.
In total, 17 local streets will be paved by October.
“This is only the beginning,” Mayor Matt Miller said.
Council President Steve Workman also congratulated Angela Woodward on her 2019 Woman of Achievement award bestowed last Thursday.
Starting in October, council meetings will be held in the freshly remodeled City Council Chambers on the 3rd floor of City Hall at 206 Claremont Avenue in Ashland.
“It is beautiful,” Miller said. “It’s not luxurious; very practical; and fully equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system, new lighting and we even have our own silver ‘A’ logo up on the wall behind us.”
Ashland City Council meetings will now be broadcast on channel 2 for those with Armstrong Cable. A livestream will continue to be available on the city’s Facebook page.
