ASHLAND — The city of Ashland has scheduled a public hearing on a rezoning request from Ashland University.
Ashland City Council set the public hearing for noon Tuesday, Aug. 11 in the third floor conference room at Ashland City Hall, 206 Claremont Ave.
Ashland University recently purchased nearly $1 million worth of property along Moss Hill Drive in Ashland, according to property transfers from the Ashland County Auditor’s office.
These three properties and other adjoining properties owned by AU are included in the rezoning request, Mayor Matt Miller told City Council at a July meeting.
The properties are currently classified for residential use and are asked to become “special use” properties instead. They are located behind AU’s Jack Miller Stadium.
In late June, Ashland University’s vice president of operations and planning Patrick Ewing said the purchases are “strategic acquisitions due to the University already owning the rest of the surrounding property.”
A representative from AU is expected to attend the Aug. 11 meeting, where additional detail could be provided on the university’s intentions for the space.
The recent purchases along Moss Hill Drive include 967 Moss Hill Drive from Elizabeth W. Simmons, 950 Moss Hill Drive from Pamela A. Rasmussen and 921 Moss Hill Drive from Steven A. and Melanie M. Huber. Each was purchased for $325,000, or a combined $975,000.
These properties alone account for five acres. 967 and 921 Moss Hill Drive include a single family dwelling, and 950 Moss Hill Drive features a two family dwelling, according to the Ashland County Auditor’s Office.
