ASHLAND — Ashland County joined Richland and Crawford Counties Saturday afternoon in a Level 2 Snow emergency status.

A Level 2 Snow Advisory is: Designed to advise motorists that all, or certain roadways in the county are hazardous with icy spots, blowing and drifting snow causing low visibility.

Only persons who deem it necessary to travel should be on the roadways. Employees should contact their employer to determine if they should report to work.

Ashland Public Library closed Saturday afternoon and will remain closed for the remainder of the day due to the winter storm.

Winter is here, according to Patrick Saunders, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

Snow is expected to continue falling until about 4 a.m. Sunday. Saunders said north central Ohio could expect eight to 10 inches of snow.

The winter storm watch has changed into a winter storm warning in Richland County. The National Weather Service in Cleveland this morning issued the warning, effective until Sunday at 10 a.m.

”After snow is done, there will be a little lake effect, I’m not sure how much you all will see,“ Sanders said.  “After that, it will get fairly cold — fairly cold, single digits even below 0 (degrees) into Monday.“

Saunders said the wind chill this weekend will feel as low as -20 degrees, with sustained winds at 15 to 20 miles an hour and occasional wind gusts registering 35 mph.

Richland and Crawford Counties were placed under a Level 2 Snow Advisory just after 1 p.m. Saturday.
