Because of $1.4 million in CARES Act funding, the City of Ashland is entering 2021 in “better shape” than finance director Larry Paxton predicted in summer 2020.

Through hot, sunny days and cold, snowy evenings, at least one person has stood daily against racism and police brutality at the corner of Main Street and Claremont Avenue in Downtown Ashland.

Despite the statewide mask order in place since July 23 and the revised order issued in mid-November, most Ashland County and City leaders do not wear the face coverings at public meetings.

At its Tuesday meeting, Ashland City Council approved 2.5 percent raises for all non-union employees, but tabled legislation relating to possible pay increases for the future mayor and council members.

Ashland city council approved several significant city purchases during Tuesday evening's meeting, due to the city receiving their expected second round of COVID relief funding from the CARES act.  Mayor Matt Miller also addressed downtown parking and the conversion of Third Street into two lanes.
