MIFFLIN TWP. – A parade, time capsule and food will highlight the celebration of 200 years of Mifflin Township.

Mifflin’s Bicentennial Festival is Saturday, June 25, from noon to 4:30 p.m. in downtown Mifflin at St. Michael Lutheran Church.

The festival will get under way at noon with a parade starting at Charles Mill Lake Park, continuing to Maine Street before concluding at the church. A time capsule with items chosen by members of the community will be buried during an opening ceremony.

During the opening ceremony, Ashland City Councilman Matt Miller will recount the history of the village and interview several longtime village residents.

A variety of food items will be for sale by donation at the church. The Mifflin Lion’s Club will serve a Swiss steak dinner for $8 per person starting at 4 p.m. in the village community center. In addition, End Zone Drive Thru, the Mifflin Inn and Mifflin Dairy Bar will be open.

Live music will keep the crowd entertained in the St. Michael’s pavilion. Performers include Alan Moore performing Southern Gospel, Dale Powers and Waymark performing Contemporary Christian music, and Toby McClure with bluegrass music.

In addition, the festival will feature a pie and cake auction, a display of township memorabilia, and tours of the historic jail on the church property.

The proceeds from the festival will benefit Ohio Valley Teen Challenge, a faith-based addiction program for men 18 and older in Youngstown, and the Starfish Project of Huron County, a non-profit organization that finds funding for people to attend faith-based addiction treatment facilities. Both groups will have tables with information at the festival for those wanting to know more. Ohio Valley Teen Challenge graduates will share their success stories throughout the day.
