Thousands are expected in downtown Ashland Saturday for the 6th annual Ashland Downtown Dream Cruise & Car Show.

ASHLAND – Downtown will be filled Saturday with more than 600 cars lining the streets for the sixth annual Ashland Downtown Dream Cruise & Car Show.

Thousands of people are expected to head downtown to peruse the classic cars, trucks and motorcycles that will set up along Main Street between Union and Broad.

“Our car show is definitely a community event. People love that we are downtown, really showcasing the heart of Ashland, and then we bring the show out to the neighborhoods with our dream cruise,” said Sandra Tunnell, executive director of Main Street Ashland.

Drive-up registration runs from 10 a.m. to noon by donation and the awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m.

At 4 p.m., car owners will cruise through town. The route starts at Union Street and Main Street, traveling west to Broad Street and then south to Smith Road. The cruise will then head north on Baney Road before turning east and heading back into town on Sandusky Street and Fourth Street.

Tunnell said she hopes people will line the cruise route to greet the cars as they drive through town.

All money made from the show goes to Shop With A Cop, a program which allows area children to go Christmas shopping with local law enforcement officers.”

“The support we have received from local businesses has been phenomenal,” Tunnell said. “Knowing that all of the money we raise goes to our local charity, Shop With a Cop, has shown the heart of the people in our area- they are so willing to support our police department and they work they do for our children.”

Tunnell said every year they have been able to donate more to Shop With A Cop. Last year, they were able to give a check for $10,500.

A swap meet has been added this year on Fourth Street in front of the Pump House from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a variety of car parts and accessories.

Five hundred dash plaques will be awarded, and goody bags will be handed out to the first 300 who enter.

The Kroc Center Big Band will perform music from the ‘60s through ‘80s during two 45-minute shows. Directed by Neil Ebert, the band features great vocalists and a powerful horn section backing up the driving rhythm section.

Door prizes will be given away and 50/50 raffle tickets will be sold. Also featured at the show will be a DJ, cornhole tournaments and food vendors.

On Friday night, the classic movie “Grease” will be showing downtown in Lot B at dusk. Watch from your vehicle or bring chairs and blankets. Admission is $5 per car. Pop and popcorn will be available by donation.
