ASHLAND — A 54-year-old Ashland man was killed in an accident early Thursday morning that closed a portion of U.S 250 north of Ashland.

According to the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Terry J. Martin died in the crash that happened around 3:44 a.m. Thursday near County Road 956.

Martin was driving a 2007 Ford Focus north on U.S. 250 when he drove left of center and struck a tractor-trailer head on. The southbound 2016 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer was driven by Keith McCloud, 48, of Steubenville.

According to the patrol, Martin’s car went off the east side of the road and came to rest in a ditch. The tractor-trailer traveled off the west side of the road and came to rest partially in a ditch.

McCloud was wearing his safety belt, suffered minor injuries and was transported to University Hospitals Ashland. Martin was also wearing his seatbelt and was declared dead at the scene. He was transported to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

U.S. 250 was closed for approximately 4 ½ hours while the scene was cleared.  There was no evidence of alcohol or drug use on scene, according to the patrol

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT, and the Savannah Volunteer Fire Department assisted on scene.  The crash remains under investigation.
