ASHLAND – Right in Ashland’s very own backyard resides a prolific, talented author and Ashland Public Library is pleased to host an author reception celebrating her accomplishments.

Best-selling author Dandi Daley Mackall will be the guest of honor on Monday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Stockwell Room on the lowest level of the library.

Mackall has written close to 500 books for both adults and children, winning multiple writing awards, including the Helen Keating Ott Award for Contributions to Children’s Literature, the Edgar Award, and the Mom’s Choice Award (twice). A movie has been made from one of her books, “My Boyfriends’ Dogs,” which was the most watched Hallmark movie of 2014. This hardworking author even had the opportunity to write a sequel to Art Linklater’s hilarious “Kids Say the Darndest Things,” which is titled “Kids Are Still Saying the Darndest Things,” an equally hilarious read. Mackall’s blog occasionally revisits the kids’ quotes theme, as well as providing updates of her work and intriguing insights on what it’s like behind Hollywood’s golden curtain.

Refreshments will be enjoyed during the meet and greet, followed by an author interview conducted by a library staff member. A discussion is anticipated regarding Mackall’s newest novel, “With Love, Wherever You Are,” a story about a World War II army doctor and nurse who fall in love during training and spend the beginning of their marriage hundreds of miles apart serving in different countries sustained only by frequent letters. This novel, which is scheduled to be released in March 2017, is based on Mackall’s own parents and the over 600 surviving letters they had written during their wartime romance.

Select copies of Mackall’s books for all ages will be available for purchase (cash or check only) and inscription, including the newly reissued “Larger-Than-Life Lara;” new picture book “One Small Donkey,” along with several other holiday titles; her award winning young adult novel, “The Silence of Murder;” and titles from several of her best-selling series about horses. Copies of her new line of books, Flipside Stories, which are unique in that there are two separate stories from differing points of view in one book, will also be on hand. A percentage of the sales from the evening will be donated to the Ashland Public Library.

This event is free and open to the public. For those not familiar with Mackall’s positive yet pragmatic works, copies of most titles can be borrowed from the Ashland Public Library, which has over 8 million total items available in its catalog online.
