JACKSON TOWNSHIP — An Amish man was killed Thursday after authorities believe he was crushed by the lumber in his horse-drawn trailer when it veered off the side of the road.

Troopers from the Ashland Post of Ohio Highway Patrol report Meno L. Yoder, 51, of Polk, was driving a horse-drawn flat-bed trailer south on Ohio 89 near County Road 620 when the trailer went off the right side of the road and overturned.

The large stack of flat lumber became dislodged from the trailer, and Yoder was ejected. He suffered fatal injuries. The Post reported Yoder was not wearing a restraining device. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Polk Fire & EMS assisted at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
