ASHLAND – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is proposing to replace the existing bridge on Ohio 179 at the 5.37 mile marker in Ashland County.
The subject bridge is located in Ashland County on Ohio 179 at the 3.69 mile marker, just north of Mohicanville. The existing bridge is a concrete slab structure with a single span that was built in 1931.
Due to the years of service and deterioration the structure needs to be replaced to function properly. The proposed structure is a four-sided concrete box with concrete wingwalls, on existing alignment. During construction one residential house located partially within State of Ohio right-of-way will need to be removed, due to its proximity to the existing bridge structure.
Construction is anticipated to begin in April of 2020, and will require a detour.
Detour route for northbound Ohio 179 traffic will be, Ohio 95 east, to Ohio 60 north, and back to Ohio 179, reverse for southbound traffic. Detour will last for approximately 60 days.
As part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), ODOT is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental and economic impacts of the proposed project. Environmental impacts include those associated with historical, archeological and ecological resources, hazardous materials and general concerns you may have with the project.
