ASHLAND – Voters said “yes” Tuesday to all three local issues on Ashland County ballots, all property tax levy requests from three of the county’s townships.

There were no contested local races in the county.

Montgomery Township voters approved an additional 1 mill property tax levy for five years for roads and bridges.

A total of 333 votes were cast, and of those, 190 (57 percent) were in favor of the issue.

The new levy will cost $35 per year for the owner of a home valued at $100,000.

Lake Township voters passed a five-year renewal of an existing 1.5 mill property tax as well as an increase of 0.5 mills for roads and bridges.

About two-thirds of the 101 voters who voted on the issue voted “yes,” while just 33 people cast “no” votes.

The renewal and increase means the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $17.50 more each year for a total of $120.17.

Milton Township voters approved renewal of an existing 3.4 mill property tax for fire protection and emergency medical services, and agreed to increase that levy by 0.5 mill for 5 years.

About 64 percent, or 215 of the total 334, Milton Township voters who cast ballots on the measure voted in favor of the levy.

Passage of the levy will result in a $17.50 increase for the owner of a home valued at $100,000. Together with the $33.21 from the existing tax, that homeowner would be paying $50.71 per year for the roads and bridges levy.

Though many voters cast ballots for contested state and national races, no contested local races were on the primary ballot this May in Ashland County.

County Commissioner Denny Bittle and County Auditor Cindy Funk, both Republicans, each ran unopposed.

A few dozen people ran for central committee seats for the Republican and Democratic parties. All were unopposed.

Voter turnout countywide was about 16 percent, with 5,812 ballots cast from among 35,543 registered voters.
