MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP — Troopers are investigating a fatal crash involving a side-by-side utility vehicle that occurred on Township Road 1215 in Ashland County. The crash was reported at 12:26 a.m.
A 2015 Can-Am Maverick UTV was traveling north on Township Road 1215, north of the village of Mifflin. It was being operated by Andrew L. Mcdaniel, 33, of Ashland.
Mcdaniel drove off the right side of the roadway on a curve to the left, struck a ditch, and overturned. Mcdaniel was ejected from the UTV. A passenger, Keegan R. Lantz, 31, of Ashland suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Mcdaniel was transported by Mifflin Volunteer Fire Department to Ohio Health Mansfield where he succumbed to his injuries. Lantz was transported to University Hospitals Ashland by Mifflin Township Fire Department. The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Mifflin Police Department, and Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Park Rangers assisted on scene.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor and neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
